How to View Failure as a Positive Thing

We all fail over the courses of our lives, right? If we are being completely honest about it, the fact of the matter is that the feeling suck. However, what if we were to tell you that failure doesn’t have to be a negative experience? Therefore, the question arises: how to view failure as a positive thing?

Tips on How to View Failure as a Positive Thing

Here are some of the reasons why you can choose to view failures as something positive. These tips will help you guide your life in the right direction:

At Least You Did Something

The first perspective that you can take, when it comes to viewing failure as a positive thing, is that of action. Why did you fail? Well, it was because you tried something, right? Many people are so afraid to step out of their comfort zones that they end up living their lives not doing anything challenging at all. Trying something out requires an unbelievable amount of courage.

A majority of the people don’t take any risks in their lives, in order to avoid failure. Well, these are the people who don’t end up getting anywhere in their lives. At least you were courageous enough to act. So what if things didn’t work out in your favor?

You Got To Learn a Lot

Life is supposed to be all about learning. Nobody is born perfect; we all learn along our not-so-merry ways. However, when you are failing again and again, it is extremely difficult to maintain the lens of positivity. There comes a time, eventually, when even the best of us snap. This is what differentiates the successful people from the not-so-successful ones.

Successful people are not afraid of failure; they see it as a positive thing. For instance, it took Thomas Edison more than hundred to invent the light bulb. However, when asked about it, Thomas Edison remarked that he didn’t fail hundred times; he just found hundred ways that didn’t work. With this kind of an attitude, it is no wonder that the world remembers him as one of the greatest inventors of all time. Failure is one of the best teachers you will ever come across.

Failure Brings Opportunities

Are you one of those individuals who believe that everything happens for a reason? If the answer is yes, then failure must always be a positive thing for you, no? Everything happens for a reason and we just don’t know about it at the time. But the question arises: how?

Well, if you think about it, failure brings with it unparalleled opportunities. The closing of certain doors open new doors and avenues for you to pursue and excel at. Had you not failed initially, there would have been no possible way for you to come across the new opportunity.

You Found Answers

Many a times we see people who plan only. These people are always busy in planning and strategizing about how they are going to make a certain thing work for them. But the question arises: what good is all their planning and strategizing if they are not going to be acting upon it? People who don’t have the will to act, owing to the fear of failure, live their lives not accomplishing anything.

Remember that every failure is a stepping stone. Planning and strategizing means to remain in your comfort zone. It is when you get out and actually put your plans into action that you realize if your plans actually work or not. And what if they don’t work? Well, then you just go back to the drawing board and begin again!

Failures Push Your Potential

We all have the potential to do and achieve great things. However, in order to do those great things, it is essential for us to keep on pushing our limits. For if we do not push out limits, there will be no possible way of surpassing them. You will never reach unparalleled heights if you keep on fearing failure. This is the reason why it is essential for you to not fear failure in any aspect of your life.

To keep on pushing yourself requires a distinct kind of mindset. This is the mindset of artists, inventors and winners. If you are afraid of failure, you will never really push through into your true potential. Take the example of an inventor for instance. When an inventor goes about putting an idea inside his head into action, doubts are obviously going to creep into the picture. But what happens if the inventor falls to these doubts? He will never invent anything. In order to actually invent something and realize the potential of his ideas, the inventor needs to lock his fears away at least for a short while.

However, what will happen if the inventor fails? Well, if the inventor fails then he better learn from his failure, buck up and try again. Because if he doesn’t try again; there is no chance in hell for the invention to come into existence. Remember: you need to try, try and try again if you are to explore the full potential of any possible idea.

You Saw the Worst

Well, we all ask ourselves the question, at times: what is the worst that can happen? The fact of the matter is that there is a lot that can happen. This is one of the biggest reasons for the fear of failure. However, fear is the most important reason why you should be willing to go through something daring in the first place. The question arises: why?

Well, it is because once you have seen the worst; there is nothing for you to be afraid of anymore. If you think about it, unless we have seen the worst, we can never quite reach the state of fearlessness. Failure can be daunting, but unless you fail, you will spend the rest of your life being unsure of yourself. This is the reason why it is essential for you to see the worst, every once in a while, so that you might be able to maintain a fearless conduct throughout your normal days.

At Least You Hit Rock Bottom

Did you take a risk that did not come off? Were you unable to accomplish something that you set out to do? If the answer is yes, then things must appear pretty bleak for you, right? Let’s face it: nobody likes being in such a position. However, what you need to understand is that there can be a touch of optimism even about hitting rock bottom.

The question arises therefore: what can be so good about hitting rock bottom? Well, the best part about hitting rock bottom is that there is no possible way for you to go any lower. This feeling can actually be a blessing in disguise, considering how you have the assurance that things cannot be any worse.

Such an assurance can do wonders for boosting your self confidence. When you have nothing to lose, that is when you give it all that you have got. And when you give it all that you have got, your chances of success exponentially go up. Bearing this in mind, you cannot help but comment that failure is as positive a thing as can be.

You Need Not Think Too Much

We all know how the French philosopher Descartes said, “I think therefore I am”, right? Well, this advice fits extremely well in most spheres of life. However, failure is not one of such spheres. When it comes to failures, it is essential that you learn to let go. In this regard, what you need to remember is that you have already failed. This means that regardless of how much you might mull over the outcome, there is no possible way for it to be changed.

Actually, obsessing over your failure a bit too much will do more bad than good. Why? Well, it is because it will prevent you from taking on new challenges in your life. The more you stress over a failure, the more likely you are to be afraid of failing in the future. Thinking about failures will trap you in an emotional loop of doom that will make you oblivious about your future. Remember: you cannot change the past but you CAN shape your future.

However, this does not mean that you are not supposed to learn from your failures. What this does mean is that there is a fine line between learning from something and obsessing over it. If you choose to obsess over a failure, you will not go anywhere with your life. Similarly, if you fail to learn from your failures, you will end up making the same mistakes in your life over and over again. Remember: a successful life is all about balancing things up.

Failures Don’t Make You a Mockery

Are you embarrassed about your failures owing to how people laughed at you when they happened? If the answer is yes, you need not worry. Why? Well, it is because whatever people say does not matter at all. If you think about it, the fear of failure for a majority of people is rooted in our fear of judgment from other people. After all, whatever people say or think about us easily influences a majority of the Joes.

It is essential that you remember, in this regard, that the opinion of people about you does not matter at all. In order to eliminate this fear, know that this is YOUR life and not theirs; you can choose to do whatever you wish to do with it. Whatever these people have to say about you is not necessarily the truth. Bearing that in mind, there is no reason for their opinions to douse your confidence and passion and limit from achieving from all that you wish for.

On top of that, it is essential for you to understand that everybody fails at some point in time. So, if a person makes fun of you for failing, it is just a case of a failure mocking another failure. It does not sound as bad when you put it like that, right? And what if a person has never failed, you ask? Well, the only person who has never failed is one who has never tried. Instead of taking offense from their remarks, you should pity their sorry states.

It Doesn’t Define You

It is essential for you to remember that you are not what your failures amount to. You are so much more than that. Many a times, we see people defining themselves by their failures. That is not how life is supposed to work. If something did not work out for you, it simply means that you failed; it does not make you a failure.

For instance, consider the example of the great inventor, Thomas Edison. Thomas Edison failed over and over again before he was successful in inventing the first light bulb. Ask yourself this question: do you remember Thomas Edison for the one time he succeeding or the hundreds of times he failed? The answer is the former, right?

If such a piece of logic can work for Thomas Edison, why can it not work for you? Why do you have to define yourself by the time you failed rather than the time you succeeded? Remember, every failure is a stepping stone to the feat that will end up defining your life. If you wish for people to remember and celebrate your life for the right reasons, it is essential to not let your failures define you. Do not lose heart and keep on working towards whatever it is you wish to accomplish. This is what will end up defining you, at the end of the day!

With Failure, You Have a Better Chance of Success

According to a research conducted at Stanford University, successful individuals are the ones who have failed the most in the course of their lives. Perseverance for learning a new skill gives these people an advantage over the people who are able to get it right the first time. Think about it: failure teaches you a million ways in which something cannot be done. This is essential if you are to reach the top of any field.

Remember: success seldom comes on a silver platter. On most occasions, you will need to deal with a lot of hurdles and failures before you can call yourself successful in any field. If you do not persevere, chances are that you will never stand on the grandest stage of them all and call yourself successful. If you believe everything that happens in life happens for a reason; you consequently have to believe that there is a reason behind every failure!

When you take it all into perspective, you have to say that as long as you learn something from your experiences; it will be extremely easy to view failure as a positive thing!
